Witnesses To Carson City, Nevada IHOP Shooting - 9/6/11


A gunman opened fire at a Carson City, Nev., IHOP restaurant, killing three people and wounding nine others before he ended the carnage by shooting himself, police said. The gunman, who police have not identified, shot himself in the head with an automatic rifle at the the restaurant. He was taken to a hospital where he died three hours later. At least two of the people the gunman killed were members of the military, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said at a press conference today. The Associated Press reported that the two military members were part of the National Guard. One of the Guard members was a woman and the other a man, the Associated Press reported. Extra security has been implemented at nearby military installations, authorities said. Carson City Chief Deputy Jack Freer said that three people died at the Ihop and that nine others in addition to the gunman were taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno and a hospital in Carson City. He said the condition of those nine people are unknown.
